Kattas Figurteater Ensemble, Norway: Katharina’s voices

Premiere in Denmark.

The monologue ‘Katharina’s voices’ is spoken from the mouth of Katharina von Bora (1499-1552).
She was one of 12 nuns who fled from the monastery of Marienthorn in 1523.  Later she married Martin Luther.

The play examines the religious persecution of lower upperclass women in Germany’s middle ages.
This corresponds to the repression of women today in religions.
Kattas Figurteater blends genre. Here classical music and text traditions meet burlesque humor and rituals.
Cecilie Schilling is a trained opera singer and masters acting as well as ventriloquism.
Bjørn Andor Drage is a composer and professor of music at the universities of Tromsø and Norland.

Katharina’s Voices is supported by: The Norwegian Church, Tunsberg Bishop seat, Norwegian Cultural Council, Fund for Sound and Pictures, Vestfold Fylkeskommune/County and Tønsberg Kommune/County.
